I am going to let my mommy type you a note today!
The doctors have decided that it is a good idea to get the bump on Allie's head removed sooner than later since it has increased in size, and their diagnosis is a dermoid cyst. The cyst has not penetrated through the skull, so that is good news! It will be removed by Dr Clay - a pediatric plastic surgeon, but he also wants to have the pediatric neurosurgeon available just in case he runs into any problems (less than a 1% chance). They will be making a cut in her head right above the bump so they will be able to see everything and remove all of it. There will probably be a small scar, but if they didn't remove it this way, there is a greater chance of it coming back - that being said - there is a 1/1000 chance it will come back so we will be monitoring it closely.
We have an entire day of pre-op scheduled for March 5th, and the surgery will be on March 6th. The doctor said it should take 30-45 minutes given there are no complications.
We are anxious to get this behind us and to know for sure it is a dermoid cyst and not anything else. We won't know for sure what it is until we get the pathology report back.
